Located around 18 km from Cat Ba island, the village lies quietly in the midst of jungles in the center of Cat Ba national park of Hai Phong province. There are only 2 ways to approach this secret place, either trekking 8km through primary forest with sheer cliffs, deep gorges and muddy ponds or take a boat for around 1 hour from Beo pier of Cat Ba town.

How things goes in the community

Being located in the middle of thick jungles, few years ago Viet Hai village stayed isolated from the outside world. Then one day, it was found and tourists started to visit the amazing place more and more. The village is now no longer isolated but it does not change the primitive life of local inhabitants. This is a really tiny community of around 80 roofs made of bamboo, wood, leaves and soil exactly the way their ancestors did centuries ago. Their food comes from fishing, farming and breeding and their life is still in bonding with the nature as if the modern world never touch the place.

Being a “primitive” life, inhabitants here are all innocent humans so they don’t even lock doors when night falls. And, even if a house owner needs to leave for some days, he never has to care about locking the doors as there will be no one steals his belongings. The inhabitants are as close as a big family, whenever some one needs help, all hands of others’ will be given voluntarily. This may sound as a fairy tale but it’s true and right here in the jungles of Cat Ba national park. And for those reasons, despite being an undeveloped communes in the region, joy and happiness are never absent from this place. People here seems to be quite satisfied with what they have and how their life goes every day. Their innocence, sincerity, kindness and optimism are magnets to tourists and more and more “modern” humans are attracted by the weird place.

Being hidden under the thick foliage of the ancient forest, it could not be said that Viet Hai is a place with amazing landscape to admire. However, the beauty of the place is not about it’s natural scenery but about its long standing age and the unique lifestyle of the past that could make you feel so peaceful. Inside Thien Cung cave

Time flew but they were yet to found the Dragon King, and May, the little girl then became a beautiful maiden. Luckily, she met Dragon princess and they immediately felt in love. The princess then helped them meet his father, the Dragon King. The King created rains and at the same time held a solemn wedding party for the young couple. Thien Cung cave is the castle where the wedding took place. The young couple then lived happily together forever in the castle, the prince became the guardian of Halong bay.

Now, thanks to the discovery in 1993, tourists can wander the winding tunnels of the Dragon prince to admire the large space inside, which is still threatened to be covered again by the forest that hid its before 1993 when human found it, or be astonished by stunning stalactites hanging down from the ceiling of the “castle”. Listen carefully, you can even hear the drum beats of the Dragon, which is actually the sound of wind flowing through cavern. At the exit of the cave, be prepared to be amazed by the vantage point that overlooks the whole of the bay.

The entrance of Thien Cung cave

The legendary of Thien Cung cave derived from Dragon King, who could create rain on the Earth. One year, there was a severe drought, farmers found it hard to survive and thought of resorting to Dragon King for help. However, the way to Dragon King’s cave was a challenge that so many people could not pass.

However, a couple with their daughter, May, was lucky enough when May grew extremely beautiful and charmed the Dragon Prince. The Prince fell in love with May and they were approve to marry. The Dragon King made rain to save people and kindly celebrated the most boisterous and lavish wedding for the young couple, which lasted for 7 days 7 nights with non-stop music and wishes.

With its ancient beauty, Thien Cung Cave has attracted the curiosity and expectation of travellers who are interested in systems of caves in Vietnam.The cave is dry, with super high ceilings and is home to a complex inner structure divided into numerous different levels and sections. The huge space inside Sung Sot cave

At the first impression, Sung Sot cave looks a bit small and dark, but as its name, Sung Sot, which means astonishing in English, the cave does astonish people when we  pass through a rocky slot and go inside and find the huge expansion.

There’s a famous legendary that says Thanh Giong (Phu Dong Thien Vuong), a mythical folk hero of Vietnam’s history, defeated the invaders. After that, he left the horse and the sword in order to reassure people and banish the invaders and flew to the sky, became a God. The footprints of the horse became small ponds along with crumbled rocks.
