New expressway cuts Hanoi-Ha Long travel time by half

The renowned Ha Long Bay is just an hour and a half away from the capital city starting Saturday.

The Ha Long-Hai Phong Expressway, which opened Saturday after three years of construction, will reduce the Ha Long-Hanoi commute by 50 km to 130 km, and cut down the Ha Long-Hai Phong route from 75 km to just 25 km.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who attended the expressway’s opening ceremony, said the new expressway will promote connectivity in the Hanoi-Hai Phong-Ha Long triangle and open up opportunities for socio-economic development in the area.

Built at a cost of VND13 trillion ($556 million), the 24.6-kilometer (15.3-mile) Ha Long-Hai Phong Expressway connects National Highway 18 in Ha Long’s Dai Yen Ward with the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway in Hai Phong’s Hai An District.

While most of the road was constructed using the state budget, the Hai Phong end of the expressway, including a VND7.27-trillion bridge across the Bach Dang River, was built using the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model.

The four lane, 5.4-km long bridge, with a 3.5-km span above the river, is 25 meters wide. It is designed with three H-shaped towers representing Hanoi, Hai Phong and Ha Long.

Phuc said the Bach Dang Bridge was a proud breakthrough for Vietnam, being the first cable-stayed bridge made in the country.

Work on the Ha Long-Hai Phong Expressway began in September 2015 and was scheduled for completion last March, but was delayed twice.

The expressway is among a series of infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the tourism industry.

Others include an international airport in Quang Ninh’s Van Don District and a new expressway between Ha Long and the proposed special economic zone in Van Don, both of which are scheduled for completion later this year.

Quang Ninh welcomed 7.5 million travelers in the first half of 2018, including 2.46 million foreigners, up 14 percent from a year ago. Tourism revenues for the period rose 31 percent year-on-year to VND12.8 trillion ($546.7 million).

Ha Long Bay harbour to become operational next month

Hon Gai International Harbour on Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh is scheduled to put into operation next month.

The harbour can receive the world’s largest cruise vessels

The harbour which can receive the world’s largest cruise vessels has a total investment of nearly VND1 trillion (USD45.54 million). Of the sum, VND300 billion is from the state budget, while the remainder is sourced from Sun Group.

The harbour is 1.2 kilometres long, with the passenger welcoming area of 130 metres long. This will serve the world’s largest cruise 330 metres long and can transport 6,500 passengers.

The terminal has three floors covering a combined area of 13,500 square metres.

Vu Van Khanh, Director of Quang Ninh Province’s Department of Transport, most of the project has been finished for the operation in November.

Around 100 luxury cruises dock in Ha Long Bay every year on average, bringing some 200,000 visitors.

However, to date, due to the limited infrastructure, cruises often have to dock quite far from shore and then tenders are used to carry passengers ashore. Sometimes, it takes final passengers of cruises up to two hours to go ashore.

Once the harbour is fully operational, big international cruise firms could increase trips to Ha Long Bay.

Ha Long Will Host Miss Tourism International 2015. The Miss Tourism International will 2015 will be held in late October at the luxury resort Reu Island, Ha Long.

Ha Long Travel: Carnaval Ha Long 2015. With the harmonic combination of themes, costumes, laser light, firework displays, etc. Carnaval 2015 brought national cultural identity and highlight events of countries in the world.

At night May 8, Carnaval Ha Long 2015 with theme “Elite Convergence- Smile Spreading” was held on Hoang Quoc Viet road, Hung Thang ward, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh. This is an event in the series of cultural, sport and tourism activities of “Tourism week of Ha Long- Quang Ninh 2015”. The program is to introduce the land, culture and people in Quang Ninh.

Yen Lap Lake- Loi Am Pagoda

On traditional Vietnamese New Year holiday, the ferry to Loi An pogado is always crowded.

Location: relic complex Yen Lap lake- Loi Am pagoda, Dai Yen commune, Hoang Bo district, Quang Ninh province.

Characteristics: Yen Lap lake is an artificial lake with total area of 182 square kilometers, originally served for agriculture and now it becomes an ideal tourist attraction with many beautiful landscapes. On Loi Am mountain, there are relics of the pagoda in 17^th century. In 1975, it was dammed to make a lake for irrigating districts: Hoang Bo, Yen Hung, Uong Bi, etc. with a total area of 182 square kilometers. After being completed, the water level rises here and hugs around the foothill to form a large lake together with fascinating floating natural islands such as: Hands island, Soup island, Crab Island, Border island, etc. along with vast pine forests creating a poetic beauty. Visitors usually take a boat on the lake Yen Lap to Loi Am Pagoda for Buddhist ceremony and sightseeing. The pagoda was built in the 15th century on Loi Am Mountain. Long Tien pagoda was built not far from now (in 1941) but is the biggest one in Ha Long city. The festival of Long Tien pagoda is not only for Buddhism followers but also brings spiritual meaning for all.

Long Tien pagoda is located at the root of Bai Tho mountain. This is a historical relic and famous landscape. It can be said that Long Tien pagoda is always on festival. Vietnam tourists as well as foreign tourists come here to visit while Buddhism followers burn incense and chant. Most crowded time is on mid-month and first day of month, especially on New Year holiday.
