Ba Mun island is located in Minh Chau commune, Van Don district, parallel with Quan Lan island. There are a variety of rare plants like iron tree and other long-time trees.
Ba Mun island is the unique schist island having its primeval forest of Ha Long Bay. The island is also known as Cao Lo Island with an area of 1,800 hectares, more than 20km in length, narrow width, running toward east-west direction. The highest mountain is Quit mountain, 397 meters high. Flora and fauna on the island is very rich and many rare species.

Ba Min island is a place where reserves a lot of rare animals: antelope, deer, monkeys, langurs and sea birds, migratory birds, etc. and a variety of plants. On January 24, 1997, Ba Mun wood is recognized as Bai Tu Long national park.
Bai Tu Long national park is located in Bai Tu Long complex, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province, about 200 km from Hanoi city in the east.
Bai Tu Long National Park
With a total area of 15,783 hectares, Bai Tu Long national park includes 6,125 hectares of land and forest area with more than 40 large and small islands and 9,650 hectares of sea surface and wetlands. In particular, ecological area of Ba Mun island in Minh Chau commune is the core area of the national park.
According to a survey of the national park, there are over 178 aquatic plant species, 119 fish, 132 species of invertebrates, 106 species of coral, and dozens of birds such as Burmese hawks, Japanese hawk, black hawk, Hai Nam flycatchers, etc.
Geological structure of Bai Tu Long National Park includes land islands and stone islands such as: Ba Mun, Big Tra Ngo Lon, Small Tra Ngo, Sau Nam, Sau Dong, Dong Ma, Hon Chinh, Lo Ho, Mang Ha Nam, Mang Ha Bac, Chay Chay, Soi Nhu. Moreover, there are limestone mountains surrounding vast valleys which create rich habitat of many animals.
This is a reserve of natural landscapes, history and culture with archaeological relics as Soi Nhu cave which discovered the existence of ancient Viet people 14,000 years ago and traces of Van Don bustling trading port.
